Protect your Skin in Cold Weather

Protect your Skin in Cold Weather

As the temperatures drop, many of us find that our skin struggles to maintain its natural hydration. Cold weather can be particularly harsh on the skin, causing dryness, flakiness, and irritation.

The Challenge of Cold Weather

When your skin is exposed to cold temperatures, the nutrient-rich blood flow that feeds your skin cells slows down significantly. If you've ever found it hard to get moving on a cold morning, you can imagine how your skin feels. This sluggish circulation results in less hydration and nutrients reaching the skin's surface, leading to dryness and discomfort.

You might be tempted to warm up by a cosy fire or heater, but unfortunately, this can have an overheating, drying effect on your skin. So what can you do to combat these winter woes?

Soak Your Skin

One effective method to increase moisture levels in the outer layers of your skin is skin soaking. Water has a high heat capacity, which means it can effectively buffer temperature changes. A hydrated skin doesn't suffer the same dramatic temperature fluctuations as dehydrated skin.

Moisturise

Your moisturiser or facial oil is another big ally in combating the effects of cold weather. Applying these products while your skin is still damp helps lock in precious moisture. Research shows that well-moisturised skin experiences a much lower reduction in temperature and recovers much faster when returning to a warmer environment.

A Janesce product to consider adding to your routine is the Perfecting Gel. This gel not only helps lock in moisture but also provides a protective barrier against environmental stressors.

Protect

Prevention is key. Nothing beats protecting your skin from getting cold in the first place. Wear a snood or scarf over the lower portion of your face in cold weather, even for short exposure times, like leaving the office to walk to your car. This simple step can significantly reduce the impact of cold air on your skin.

Winter can be tough on your skin, but with the right care and protection, you can keep your skin hydrated and healthy. Regular hydration, effective moisturising, and protective measures are essential to maintaining your skin's moisture levels during the colder months.
