How can I protect myself from the harsh New Zealand sun?
Share
When you are dealing with skin challenges, it is essential to be vigilant about protecting yourself from the sun. Why? The sun is damaging for all skin types, but it is especially harmful for sensitised skin conditions 🫣
To make matters trickier, you may need to avoid using sunscreen altogether if you are suffering from a skin disorder. Sensitised skin will react to even gentle, natural sun care products. It is simply not robust enough to handle it.
Until your skin is strong enough to handle sunscreen, it is best to simply stay out of the sun as much as possible.
On the occasions where you cannot avoid being outdoors, we recommend the following physical protection measures:
🌴 Stay in the shade as much as possible.
👒 Invest in a good quality, wide-brimmed hat that is enjoyable to wear. Straw or loose weave hats are not very effective. As a rule of thumb, if you can see the sun through the hat fibre, the sun can see you too!
👘 Wear light, long-sleeved tops that reduce the skin’s exposure to the sun’s rays.
Your skincare therapist will tell you when your skin is strong enough for you to test wearing sunscreen. Most sunscreens contain chemicals which will be too harsh for your skin so try the Janesce Suncare Lotion. It contains healing plants that not only protect your skin from the sun but also speed you on your skin healing journey 💕
